The Lighthouse Keeper, from story to clips

The M Studio team started this project from one paragraph: “Elias, a weathered lighthouse keeper in his late 60s with a thick silver beard… spots a small fishing boat caught in an approaching storm.” M Studio wrote it as 15 shots, drew a picture for each and made the clips. Play any shot below.

Shot 1 — Aerial, the lighthouse at golden hour

The story's first line, “a sweeping aerial shot of the isolated lighthouse on jagged cliffs”, as a picture and a 5-second clip.

Made by the M Studio team on 3 March 2026 with the models of that time. Today clips are made with MiniMax H3 by default, and the project would also get a cast with character sheets and voices.

How to turn a script into a movie with AI

Script to movie in five steps

This is the order M Studio works in. In the Lighthouse Keeper example, the input was one paragraph and the result was 15 shots.

  • 1. Paste the script or upload a PDF — Paste a screenplay, a treatment or a story, or upload a PDF of up to 25 MB and 500 pages. A finished screenplay gives the best shots.
  • 2. Approve the plan, the cast and the sets — The AI Director plans the scenes and the shots, and makes a character sheet and a voice for each person and a picture for each place. Fix what is wrong here.
  • 3. Check one picture per shot, redraw what misses — One picture per shot. Edit a shot's prompt and redraw the pictures that miss before you spend anything on video.
  • 4. Turn each picture into a 5 to 15 second clip with sound — Each approved picture becomes a 5 to 15 second clip. On a plan, Make my whole film has the AI Director make the clips, add the sound and export for you.
  • 5. Export the movie or an FCPXML/EDL timeline — Download MP4, WebM or MOV at 720p, 1080p or 4K, or the timeline as FCPXML or EDL to finish the cut in your editor.

What you can make from one script

  • Storyboard: a picture for every shot — A picture for every shot, to read the film before you spend on video. The trial draws the first 10 shots.
  • Animatic: the pictures timed with voice and sound — The storyboard pictures timed on the timeline with voice and sound: an animatic without hand-drawn frames.
  • Pitch trailer or one scene: clips for the key moments — Clips for the moments that sell the film, cut to one or two minutes, for a producer or a fund.
  • Short film: every shot as a clip, with sound — Every shot as a clip, with dialogue, music and sound, exported as one file.

What to expect from script to film AI

  • Up to 120 minutes planned on a paid plan, 30 on the trial — A paid plan plans films of up to 120 minutes and the trial up to 30. Clips are 5 to 15 seconds each, so a long film is many clips.
  • Faces stay close from shot to shot, not perfect — Character sheets keep faces close from shot to shot, not perfect. Expect to redraw some shots.
  • Default clips are 768p; the export goes up to 4K — MiniMax H3, the default model, makes clips at 768p, and the export can scale the cut to 1080p or 4K. Projects are 16:9 or 9:16.
  • PDF or pasted text: export Final Draft or Fountain to PDF — PDF or pasted text. Final Draft and Fountain files: export them to PDF or paste the text.

How it works

From script to screen in six steps

M Studio builds a film shot by shot, and you direct every shot — this is the whole path, start to finish.

  1. 01

    Start a film

Start from a one-line brief, or import a screenplay PDF and build straight from the pages you already wrote.

  2. 02

    Add your script

Scenes, action and dialogue laid out shot by shot — editable line by line before anything renders.

  3. 03

    Add your characters

Add each character once with a reference image so the same face carries across every shot in the film.

  4. 04

    Build the storyboard

Your script breaks into shots on a canvas. Reorder, reframe and re-prompt any shot until the board reads right.

  5. 05

    Make the video clips

Turn approved storyboard pictures into video clips one shot at a time, then layer voiceover, music and sound effects.

  6. 06

    Export the cut

Take the finished cut out as an MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 4K on Professional and up, ready for the edit or the pitch.

There is no length cap in the editor. Because films are made shot by shot, how long a film can run comes down to how many video clips your plan includes — not a limit in the tool.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Paste the script or upload the PDF, and M Studio plans the shots, makes a cast, draws a storyboard, makes a video clip for each shot, adds voices, music and sound, and exports the movie. You approve each step.

Pick by what you need at the end. A clip generator suits one shot. For a screenplay you want a tool that keeps the scenes, the cast and the order: M Studio plans every shot from the script and keeps it all in one project. Our buyer guide compares 10 script-to-video tools.

Yes. The storyboard pictures go on a timeline with voice and sound, so you get a timed animatic from the script without drawing a frame. Add clips later for the shots that need motion.

It depends on the number of shots. Each clip takes a few minutes to make. Most of your time goes to checking the shots and redrawing the ones that miss.

A PDF of up to 25 MB and 500 pages, or pasted text. Scanned pages are read too, up to 40 pages in a file of up to 15 MB. For Final Draft or Fountain, export a PDF first.

Yes. Every shot's picture prompt and motion prompt can be edited, and you can add, remove and reorder shots, and redraw any picture before you make its clip.

No. The trial costs $1 today and covers the script, the cast and storyboard pictures for the first 10 shots. When it ends, your plan's price starts unless you cancel, and we email you a reminder about 6 hours before. Video, sound design and export need a plan.
