AI storyboard and filmmaking tool prices 2026What you pay, and what it buys.
The cheapest paid plan, the free plan or trial, and what a 20-shot storyboard costs on Boords, Katalist, LTX Studio, StoryboardHero, Storyboarder.ai, Runway, Higgsfield, Krea, Google Flow, Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, and M Studio. All prices in US dollars, read from each vendor's own pricing page.
Last updated · M Studio Editorial
We make M Studio. We compared every tool on the same criteria, using each vendor's own site and pricing page.
In October 2026, the cheapest paid plans run from $4.99 to $116 a month. Most storyboard tools start between $9 and $39 a month: Krea Basic $9, LTX Studio Lite $15, Runway Standard $15, StoryboardHero Solo $19, Katalist Essential $19, M Studio Starter $27, and Boords Solo $39. Storyboarder.ai Starter is $116 a month. Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, for drawn boards, is $90 a month.
A 20-shot AI storyboard fits inside one month of the cheapest paid plan on every tool where the vendor says how many images a plan makes. Video is where the cost grows: tools charge for it by the second or by credits, and re-takes count. Prices change often, so check the vendor's page before you buy.
Section 02
Price comparison: 11 AI storyboard and filmmaking tools
Cheapest paid plan = the lowest monthly price with monthly billing, unless the table says otherwise. 20-shot storyboard = what 20 AI images cost on that plan, where the vendor publishes how many images a plan makes. Not listed = the vendor's page does not say.
The monthly price is not the full cost. Look at three things. What one image or one second of video costs in credits. Whether re-takes count (on M Studio they do). And what the plan does not include, such as video, commercial use, or export.

Notes
M Studio
No free plan; a $1 trial for 24 hours makes one film's script, the storyboard for its first 10 shots, scene audio and score
$27/month Starter
$90 monthly generation budget, 5 films, 360 storyboard frames or 120 five-second video shots, 50K voiceover characters
About $5 of the $90 budget (pictures are 25¢ each)
The trial becomes the plan you chose after 24 hours unless you cancel. Video is 15¢ a second; voice, music and sound effects draw nothing
Boords
Free plan: 5 active storyboards, 3 scripts, 8 one-off AI image credits
$39/month Solo
1 user, unlimited storyboards, 250 AI images a month
Fits in one Solo month ($39)

Katalist
7-day free trial
$19/month Essential
200 image credits, 700 video credits a month, 5 projects, 1 custom character
Not listed (credits per image not published)
Pro is $39/month with 10 custom characters
LTX Studio
Free: 800 credits, one time, personal use only
$15/month Lite ($12/month billed yearly)
8,000 credits a month, no watermark
Not listed (credits per image not published); AI Storyboards start on Standard, $35/month
Commercial licence and saved Elements are on Standard
StoryboardHero
Not listed
$19/month Solo
1 seat, unlimited AI images plus 100 premium AI images a month, PDF and MP4 export
Fits in one Solo month ($19)
7-day money-back guarantee on Solo; hand-drawn frames cost extra (10 credits = $99)
A storyboard is cheap on every AI tool. Turning it into a film is where plans differ, because video is charged by the second or by credits.
M Studio
Video draws 15¢ a second from the plan's monthly budget, so a 5-second shot is 75¢. Starter's $90 budget buys about 120 five-second shots. Voice, music and sound effects draw nothing.
Runway
Standard's 625 monthly credits make 52 seconds of Gen-4.5 or 104 seconds of Gen-4 Turbo. Pro ($35/month) makes 187 seconds of Gen-4.5.
Katalist
Essential includes 700 video credits a month. The page does not say how many seconds a credit makes.
Higgsfield
Basic's 120 credits make about 7 Seedance 2.0 Fast videos a month.
Storyboarder.ai
Starter includes 10 video generations; more video is an optional add-on.
Section 04
What M Studio costs
M Studio has three plans: Starter $27/month, Professional $99/month, and Studio $199/month. Each plan includes a monthly generation budget: $90, $225 and $450. Storyboard pictures draw 25¢ each and video 15¢ a second. Voiceover, music and sound effects draw nothing, and re-takes count against the budget.
There is no free plan. On 27 October 2026 the pricing page offered a $1 trial of 24 hours. It makes one film: its script, the storyboard for its first 10 shots, scene audio and score. Video clips, animations and export start with the plan. When the trial ends, the plan you chose starts and bills monthly, unless you cancel first.
Section 05
How to compare AI storyboard prices
Price the film, not the month
Count your shots, add two re-takes for the shots that matter, and add the seconds of video. Then check which plan covers that.
Check what the free plan allows
Several free plans and trials watermark the output or forbid commercial use. Read the plan line before you show the board to a client.
Read the yearly price twice
A price billed yearly is often shown per month. LTX Studio, Runway, Krea, and Storyboarder.ai all show a lower per-month price for a yearly bill.

How we evaluated these tools
M Studio publishes this guide, and M Studio is one of the tools in it. Read the ranking with that bias in mind. We compared each tool on free plan or trial, cheapest paid plan, what that plan includes, and what a 20-shot storyboard costs on it. Competitor features and starting prices come from each vendor's own website and pricing page, checked on 27 October 2026. Where a vendor does not publish a fact or a price, the table says "not listed".
A star rating is our editorial judgement of fit for the job this guide covers (5 = strongest). We do not give M Studio a rating. It is not a user review score or a lab benchmark, and we did not run paid side-by-side tests of every tool.
Where other tools are stronger than M Studio: Google Flow ($4.99/month), Krea ($9), Higgsfield ($9), LTX Studio ($15), and Runway ($15) start cheaper than M Studio. StoryboardHero ($19) gives unlimited AI images. Boords, Krea, LTX Studio, Runway, Google Flow, and Higgsfield have free plans or tiers; M Studio does not.
M Studio builds a film shot by shot, and you direct every shot — this is the whole path, start to finish.
01
Start a film
Start from a one-line brief, or import a screenplay PDF and build straight from the pages you already wrote.
02
Add your script
Scenes, action and dialogue laid out shot by shot — editable line by line before anything renders.
03
Add your characters
Add each character once with a reference image so the same face carries across every shot in the film.
04
Build the storyboard
Your script breaks into shots on a canvas. Reorder, reframe and re-prompt any shot until the board reads right.
05
Make the video clips
Turn approved storyboard pictures into video clips one shot at a time, then layer voiceover, music and sound effects.
06
Export the cut
Take the finished cut out as an MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 4K on Professional and up, ready for the edit or the pitch.
There is no length cap in the editor. Because films are made shot by shot, how long a film can run comes down to how many video clips your plan includes — not a limit in the tool.
