Ripple Editing Mode

Ripple editing automatically adjusts audio timing when you change frame durations.

What is Ripple Editing?

When enabled, changing a frame's duration will:

  • Push or pull subsequent audio clips
  • Maintain relative sync positions
  • Keep your mix aligned with video

Enabling Ripple Edit

Toggle the Ripple Edit button in the timeline controls:

  • 🔗 Enabled - Audio shifts with frame changes
  • 🔓 Disabled - Audio stays in place

When to Use It

Enable ripple edit when:

  • Audio is synced to specific frames
  • You're adjusting pacing
  • You want to maintain relative timing

Disable ripple edit when:

  • Audio is at fixed timecodes
  • You're doing fine adjustments
  • Music should stay at specific points

Example

Frame 3 is 5 seconds. You change it to 7 seconds.

With ripple edit ON:

  • All audio after frame 3 shifts right by 2 seconds
  • Voiceover for frame 4 stays synced

With ripple edit OFF:

  • Audio stays at original positions
  • May need manual adjustment

Locking Tracks

You can lock specific audio clips from ripple:

  1. Select the audio clip
  2. Click the lock icon
  3. Locked clips don't move during ripple

Use this for:

  • Music that should hit specific timecode
  • Sound effects at fixed positions
